Format Requirements

  • Title: 6-12 words, capitalized using capitalizemytitle.com

  • SEO Title: Under 60 characters

  • Article Length: 200-400 words for announcements, 400-900 words for standard articles

  • Description: 50-160 characters, extracted directly from the article

  • Structure: Minimal introductions, concise conclusions, frequent line breaks

  • Images: Use standard-sized images with alt text and photographer credits (with link)

  • Visuals: Include dividers between sections

Writing Style

  • Personal and Engaging: Write as if you're talking to a friend, using a light and humorous tone.

  • Clarity and Simplicity: Avoid complex sentences, especially in lists. Keep paragraphs short.

  • Readability: The content should be easy to read and understand, avoiding jargon and overly technical terms.

Editing Guidelines

  • Comprehensive Review: Check grammar, tone, format, and relevance. Remove wordy sections or anything that detracts from the main point.

  • Consistency: Ensure articles maintain a consistent style with previous publications. Refer to the Groningen Mail archive for reference.

  • Tone Adjustment: If the tone is off, suggest improvements and return it to the author for revision if time allows.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with our articles to develop and maintain a cohesive style across all content.

Content Do's and Don'ts

  • Do: Incorporate personal experiences, observations, and a dash of humor where appropriate.

  • Don't: Directly copy content from any source, including AI-generated text, without significant modification.

  • Do: Break down complex topics into key points that are easy to grasp.

  • Don't: Use long, complex sentences that could confuse readers.

Final Notes

  • Our goal is to create content that not only informs but also entertains our readers.

  • Always aim for simplicity and directness in your writing.

  • Keep the reader in mind - what they would find interesting, useful, and fun to read.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure that Groningen Mail continues to be a source of engaging, readable, and enjoyable content for all our readers.
