During the festival there are multiple awards that filmmakers can win, and even though you are not a filmmaker yourself, you can still participate by voting. Besides the audience award there are lots of other categories like best short movie (Tiger short competition) and the best movie from Asia (NETPAC Award).

In the early 70’s film fanatic Huub Bals was looking for a way to give young, independent and unknown film directors a chance to express their creativity to a broader audience. He criticized the superficial and commercialized Hollywood-productions, and stated that there are many people worldwide whose talent would lose its potential due to the lack of financial support. That's why he organized the Festival in 1972, which each year became more successful.

Tickets for IFFR can be easily purchased through the festival’s official website. Visitors can choose between single tickets, day passes, or festival passes, making it accessible for both casual visitors and dedicated film enthusiasts. Because popular screenings can sell out quickly, it is recommended to book tickets in advance.
