Dutch pastry chefs set a Guinness World Record in Maastricht with a giant apricot pie weighing about 1,057–1,058 kilos and measuring roughly 7.7 metres across. The record was made to celebrate the 70th edition of the BBB Bread & Pastry Fair at MECC Maastricht and was officially certified on site by a Guinness World Records representative.

What they baked and how

Bakers from Smores patisserie (Meerssen/Maastricht) built the pie in sections, baking pieces in multiple ovens and assembling them like a puzzle at the venue. The ingredients list was extreme: around 350 kg flour, 600 eggs, 300 kg sugar, 530 kg apricots, plus yeast, butter and other basics. After the record was confirmed, visitors got to taste it.

The record puts Limburg’s pastry culture in the spotlight and gave the fair a high-profile opening. Organisers say the attempt drew strong crowds and media attention, adding to the fair’s aim of promoting regional craft and hospitality.

Guinness keeps many “largest pie” categories (meat, fruit, etc.). Maastricht’s win is for a giant apricot pie/vlaai, separate from older meat-pie records, and is expected to be listed in the Guinness Book.
