A 20-year-old man died following a shooting early Sunday morning on Flying Dutchmanstraat in Rotterdam-IJsselmonde. Police have arrested five suspects aged 17 to 24 from the Rotterdam region as investigators work to piece together what happened.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, police received reports of gunfire on Flying Dutchmanstraat. Emergency responders found the victim and performed CPR at the scene before transporting him to hospital, where he died shortly after arrival. The area was immediately sealed off for forensic examination and witness interviews. A specialized major investigation team (Team Grootschalige Opsporing, or TGO) has been established to lead the case.

Arrests

Police later detained five young men: residents of Rotterdam, Capelle aan den IJssel, and Krimpen aan den IJssel. They are now being questioned about their involvement in the shooting. Detectives are working to reconstruct the timeline of events and determine the motive behind the attack.

This marks the second fatal shooting in Rotterdam that weekend, following a separate deadly incident in the Zevenkamp neighbourhood. Authorities say they are examining whether any connections exist between the two cases but are currently treating them as separate investigations.

Investigators are urgently appealing for witnesses or anyone with camera footage from the Flying Dutchmanstraat area on Sunday morning to come forward. Information can be reported by calling 0900-8844 or anonymously through Meld Misdaad Anoniem at 0800-7000.
